Last week was half term so we took the caravan away to Shropshire; staying at the Camping and Caravanning Club site in Oswestry (though the site is midway between Oswestry and Shrewsbury).
As C&CC sites go it is one of the better ones. Pitch with a view and decent amenities block. The site boasts that it is near Nesscliffe Country Park, which is a triumph of marketing since the park in question is a small wooded area, albeit a pleasant enough walk.
Normally we try not to go to far from where we are staying but the geography here makes that more difficult. We had an interesting visit to Wroxeter, one of the largest Roman cities in Britai n. It seemed unusually busy for an English Heritage site until we discovered that the reconstructed Roman villa across the road from the excavated roman baths is the subject of a Channel 4 documentary. Another trip was to the free museum at RAF Cosford. We also did some other local walking and sight seeing.
We saw very little of Shrewsbury itself but if you are not into camping it would make a good location for a weekend away.
