Putting Christ into Christmas and into us?

Isaiah 42:1-4

42 Here is my servant, whom I uphold,
    my chosen, in whom my soul delights;
I have put my spirit upon him;
    he will bring forth justice to the nations.
2 He will not cry or lift up his voice,
    or make it heard in the street;
3 a bruised reed he will not break,
    and a dimly burning wick he will not quench;
    he will faithfully bring forth justice.
4 He will not grow faint or be crushed
    until he has established justice in the earth;
    and the coastlands wait for his teaching.

It struck me when this was read in church the other day, we ought not simply read this as a prophetic picture of the coming Messiah but also of a picture of ourselves.

  • Envoys who bring forth truth.
  • Messengers who don’t dominate or shout others down, are not ostentatious or self-advertising but who treat the week, vulnerable and threatened as valuable to God.
  • Godly representatives who faithfully symbolize God’s revelation, and in spite of the pressures on them, will not be deterred but will have the inner resolve and resilience to continue to set God’s views before people, right relationship with God for all the earth.

Personally I have some way to go. What about you?

Happy Christmas
